Do some colours last longer than others?

Not necessarily, although light colours show wear less visibly and require less frequent maintenance.  Any Staron solid surfaces solid colour should provide many years of dependable service. ^top

Can you cut directly onto Staron solid surfaces?

Cutting directly on Staron solid surfaces countertops is not recommended because it can scratch or cut the surface. ^top

While preparing meals, can I place raw vegetables and meats on Staron solid surfaces?

Yes. Because Staron solid surfaces are nonporous, germs and bacteria have nowhere to accumulate. In fact, Staron is one of just a few surfaces approved for food preparation areas in restaurants. Before preparing a meal, make sure the surface is clean. Do not allow other food to come into contact with a surface where raw meat has been placed until the surface is thoroughly cleaned, preferably with a weak bleach solution. ^top

Will Staron solid surfaces fade?

No. The acrylic resins used in Staron solid surfaces are unaffected by the ultraviolet rays present in natural light, so it will not fade. ^top

Can I place hot pans directly onto Staron solid surfaces?

Staron solid surfaces are heat-resistant and will remain stable and undamaged up to 100 oC (212 oF). However, high heat or flame can damage the surface. In most cases it can be repaired. To protect the countertop, always use a heat pad or trivet.  You can also request addition ofheat rails near a stove where hot pans can be placed without worry. ^top

Are Staron solid surfaces ever used in flooring?

Staron solid surfaces are not intended to be used as a flooring material, though it has been used in stair treads. Even then, only colours with large particulate are used to hide wear and scratches. ^top

What are the advantages of Staron solid surfaces over granite?

If granite is not sealed regularly, it can become stained and harbour bacteria, viruses and mold.seams in granite are also difficult to keep clean. Staron solid surfaces are nonporous with smooth, impenetrable seams to prevent unwelcome germs and mildew. Staron is also more impact-resistant than granite, and custom designs are easier to fabricate. ^top

What are the advantages of Staron solid surfaces over laminates?

Laminates may separate over time if exposed to moisture. Staron solid surfaces are solid and homogenous, impenetrable to moisture. Laminates may also be damaged easily by nicks and cuts, and cannot be repaired like Staron . ^top

What are the advantages of Staron solid surfaces over tile?

Tile has many seams where bacteria, viruses and mold can accumulate. Grout between tiles must be cleaned frequently and often cracks. Staron solid surfaces have smooth, impenetrable seams, is more impact-resistant than tile, and offers many more edge treatments. ^top

If I buff out a scratch or stain with a light-duty scrubbing pad, and the area is not as glossy as the rest of the countertop,  what should
I do?

The finer the grit of cleaner or scrubber you use, the higher the gloss. For the highest gloss finishes, use a finer grit such as a white polishing compound with water and try to blend it with the rest of the countertop. Buff and dry with a smooth cloth. ^top

Can I add a Staron solid surfaces sink or bowl to my existing Staron countertop?

It is possible, but it depends on the style of sink and the details of the existing installation. Check with your local fabricator. ^top

Do I need to choose a sink and faucet before my Staron solid surfaces countertop is installed?

Though there are some common fixture sizes, we highly recommend selecting the sink and faucet before your custom countertop is created by a fabricator. ^top

Absolutely. We’ve provided examples of common edges that most fabricators are equipped to build. Talk to your local builder or fabricator to get precisely the edge treatment you have in mind. ^top

Staron solid surfaces are installed by licensed fabricators who have been specially trained to work with this unique product. Using a licensed fabricator ensures that your countertop will be properly installed and under full warranty. ^top

Can I purchase sheets of Staron solid surfaces and install it myself?

To ensure quality installation and full warranty, Staron solid surfaces are only available to licensed fabricators. ^top

The fabricator left me a small piece of Staron solid surface to use as a cutting board, but I’ve heard I shouldn’t cut on Staron . Can I use the board?

As a separate piece, Staron solid surfaces make a great cutting board. However, cutting leaves small scratches on the surface that you absolutely wouldn’t want on your countertop. ^top
